Adventist Health Portland Celebrates Addition of Second Da Vinci Surgical System

Members of the leadership and surgery teams at Adventist Health Portland cut the ribbon for a new da Vinci Surgical System earlier this month.

“Having a second da Vinci will allow more patients faster access to minimally invasive surgery options,” says Helen Watt, director of perioperative services. “It really opens up our surgery schedule so patients aren’t waiting as long for surgery, or undergoing more invasive surgery when they don’t have to.”

The da Vinci robot allows surgeons to make incisions that are less than an inch long. They then use the robot to maneuver cameras and surgical instruments to perform procedures without creating large incisions.

Robotic-assisted procedures currently include heart surgery, hysterectomy, prostatectomy and virtually scarless surgeries.
