Adventist Health Tillamook Offers New Bivalent COVID Vaccine Booster to Patients 12 and up

News, COVID-19

Recommended by the CDC to protect against new Omicron subvariants of the COVID-causing virus, Adventist Health Tillamook now offers the latest bivalent COVID booster available for all fully vaccinated patients who have received both primary doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, or one primary dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. These updated boosters target the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants, which are now estimated to be responsible for 87.5 percent of all new infections according to data presented by the CDC on September 10, 2022.

“All the data from this new bivalent vaccine have demonstrated that it will more likely protect you against the strains that we have circulating right now, those Omicron BA.5 strains because we’ve seen that some of that protection can wane over time,” said Dr. Rochelle Walensky, CDC director in a recent televised interview on September 22, 2022. Dr. Walensky continues, “So, we are really encouraging everybody to roll up their sleeves and get this updated bivalent vaccine.”

To receive this new booster or receive any of the primary vaccine doses, please contact our Occupational Medicine clinic to schedule an appointment at 503-815-2110 from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Thursday. Scheduled appointments are also available at the Adventist Health Medical Office – Pacific City by calling 503-965-6555.

At least two months must have passed since completing the primary vaccination series or your most recent booster to receive the new bivalent booster. For children ages 5–11, the new booster is estimated to be available later this fall and for children younger than age 5, this winter.
