Parkinson’s Patients Gets Big Gains From LSVT BIG Therapy

News, Body

After 15 years managing Parkinson’s disease, Harold Delemos recently noticed his walking and mobility getting progressively worse.

“After discussing my concerns with my primary doctor and neurologist, they recommended therapy,” says Harold. “I decided this 16-visit occupational therapy treatment plan would be helpful.”

Harold met with Linda Bright, OTR/L, (pictured, above) who implemented LSVT BIG therapy, an intensive one-on-one program for people with Parkinson’s disease to improve both small and large motor skills. Together, Linda and Harold worked through exercises and activities to improve his balance, coordination, posture, speed and ease of movement for walking and other daily activities.

“Linda impressed me with her professionalism and patience, along with the caring ways she shared knowledge about the disease,” says Harold. “Her training gave me the correct exercises to be more mobile and improve my quality of life.”

Linda also gave Harold guidance on how he could continue exercises at home at the end of the program to maintain and continue improving his motor skills.

“What stood out to me the most after rehab was the desire to continue self-improvement after the treatment was completed,” he says. “By faithfully continuing my daily therapy at home, I’m able to feel more in control of my movements. My only regret is that I wish I had taken this therapy years ago!”
