Adventist Health welcomes Orthopedic Surgeon to Tulare

TULARE – David Brethouwer, DO, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon, is caring for patients at Adventist Health Medical Office – Tulare. Specializing in adult reconstruction, he has extensive experience with minimally invasive procedures for direct anterior total hip replacement, total and partial knee replacement and complex primary and revision total joint replacement surgery.

Graduating with honors, Dr. Brethouwer received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. He then earned his medical degree from Midwestern University – Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois, where he was valedictorian of his class.

Dr. Brethouwer completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at Riverside University Health System in Moreno Valley. During residency, he served as chief resident and had the opportunity to train at one of the busiest trauma centers in Southern California. He also spent time as a team physician for the University of California, Riverside.

He then pursued advanced training with a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, where he gained proficiency in the latest arthroplasty techniques to maximize patient function and recovery

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, cooking and sports. Other interests include staying active by playing golf, cycling and hiking.
