“Quick and Cared For”: Ashley’s Urgent Care Experience

News, Emergency Services

Ashley Lowe didn’t know how much longer she could take it. After over three days of not being able to breathe without terrible pain, she realized she was going to need medical help.

The problem? Her primary care doctor couldn’t see her that day. And due to COVID-19 restrictions, her other options were only offering her virtual appointments.

“I wasn’t sure what was wrong, but I was worried it could be a problem with my lungs or back. I wanted someone to see me in person, that day.”

Desperate to experience some relief and finally be able to get some pain-free sleep, Ashley was hesitant to suffer through hours of wait in an emergency room.

Thankfully, she remembered Adventist Health and Rideout’s new urgent care center. “I remembered hearing that patients rarely had to wait for care. It seemed like the perfect solution!”

A resident of Loomis, Ashley hopped in the car for the short drive to Yuba City.

“I was really impressed by the brand-new space,” Ashley recalls. “The setup was perfect. More importantly, I was greeted right away and almost immediately brought back to an exam room.” From walking through the door to being seen took only two minutes.

After a shot to help the pain and a thorough exam and X-rays to rule out a collapsed lung or other problem, the doctor, William Sandusky, MD, explained that the cause of the pain was likely an aggravated nerve root, a condition where nerves become compressed or irritated, causing sharp pain.

“I walked out of the urgent care experiencing immediate relief,” Ashley remembers. A referral to physical therapy and some deep tissue massage helped resolve the problem, which Ashley attributes to starting a more intense exercise routine combined with the less ideal ergonomics of working from home.

“It was quick, easy and I felt cared for,” Ashley describes. “I think that’s what everyone wants!”
