Pediatrician joins Adventist Health Medical Office - Tulare

TULARE – Layla Makahleh, MD, has joined the staff at Adventist Health Medical Office – Tulare. She’s a compassionate pediatrician who provides newborn, well child, adolescent and preventative care; treatment for common childhood illnesses; school and sports physicals; and urgent care and emergency department follow-up visits.

“I am excited to be in the Central Valley to provide children and their families with the best possible care, compassion and guidance,” she says.

Makahleh earned her medical degree from the University of Jordan Faculty of Medicine in Amman, where she received a full scholarship and graduated fourth in her class. Afterwards, she completed residencies at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital and SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York City. While at SUNY Downstate, she served as chief resident.

She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Medical Association. Makahleh also has been an active volunteer throughout her education and career. A few organizations and projects she’s dedicated her time to include a family health challenge to address health disparities; an economic forum for students; and the Pink October campaign to encourage breast cancer screenings.

When not caring for patients, she enjoys biking, cooking and reading. She’s fluent in both English and Arabic and proficient in French.
