A Feasibility Study: The Next Step in Developing a Freestanding 
Emergency Room in Paradise

Funding made possible by Adventist Health Feather River Health Foundation 

Adventist Health announced that all funding needed for a feasibility study of the freestanding ED in Paradise was secured, thanks to the recent news from the Adventist Health Feather River Health Foundation which awarded $120,536 funding to support completion of the study.

The study will be conducted by California-based Nichols, Melburg & Rossetto Architects/Engineers, a comprehensive architecture, structural engineering and interior design firm with offices in Redding, Chico and Santa Rosa. The scope of work includes a full assessment of construction and improvement needs of the facilities, equipment and power and water options to meet the requirements of the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) and SB 156, a recent bill put forth by Assemblyman Gallagher and Senator Nielsen, passed by the House and Senate and signed by Governor Newsom. SB 156 provides a special permit to Adventist Health to explore the option of possibly providing stand-alone emergency care services in Paradise.  

“Today, we are celebrating this next milestone on the road toward restoration of local emergency care,” commented Rick Rawson, President, Adventist Health. “This feasibility study is just one of many steps in the process. This study will help us determine immediate and long-term needs and what resources it will take to build and meet requirements of all state and regulatory agencies. And while there is not a specific timeline in place, we can assure residents that we are committed to working judiciously to advance the next steps to restore services to this community as quickly as possible.”

In the meantime, Adventist Health has continued to focus on the needs of this community by opening an immediate care clinic located at 5125 Skyway Road, This provides community members with a convenient option when an immediate medical care issue arises. Rather than waiting for hours in an emergency room that is miles away, residents can receive immediate care for the evaluation and treatment of illnesses and injuries that need prompt attention but are not life-threatening. This may include allergies, asthma, cough or cold, eye or ear infections, fever, flu or treatment of minor injuries such as cuts, strains, burns, insect stings or minor back and muscle pain to name a few.
