Adventist Health News

September 3, 2019 (Sonora, Calif.) – Adventist Health Sonora is pleased to announce the addition of board-certified family medicine practitioner Ryan Carey, DO, MPH, to its medical staff. Carey cares for infants, children and adults and provides wellness checks, chronic condition management, urgent and acute care, common outpatient procedures and prenatal care up to 28 weeks. He treats numerous conditions, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute and chronic neck and back pain.

He cares for his patients using integrative medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment. Integrative medicine focuses on whole person care using an evidence-based approach. Osteopathic manipulative treatment employs special training in the musculoskeletal system and an understanding of how the body’s systems are interconnected to help patients improve pain and function.

Carey earned his medical degree and Master of Public Health (MHP) degree from Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo. He then completed a residency in family medicine with a concentration in integrative medicine and osteopathic manipulative treatment at the University of Missouri – Kansas City.

Carey is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is conversant in medical Spanish.

Being able to help patients with health problems inspired Carey to practice medicine. “I enjoy being able to develop relationships with my patients and help them improve their health,” he says.

When not seeing patients, Carey can be found hiking, biking, snowboarding, traveling and reading science fiction.

He is accepting new patients and may be reached at Adventist Health Sonora’s Health Pavilion Medical Office located at 900 Mono Way in Sonora. More information and appointments are available by calling (209) 536-6925.
