Adventist Health Sonora Center for Wound Care Recognized with National President’s Circle Award for Excellence in Wound Healing

March 14, 2019 (Sonora, CA) – Adventist Health Sonora physicians, leaders and clinicians gathered today to celebrate the President’s Circle award which was given to the Center for Wound Care in recognition of their outstanding performance in patient satisfaction and healing rates. The Center was awarded this prestigious honor by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services. Out of 413 eligible Centers, 29 were honored with this award nationwide.

For eight consecutive years, the Center for Wound Care at Adventist Health Sonora has been recognized as a Robert A. Warriner III, Center of Excellence, achieving patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal.

To earn the President’s Circle distinction for 2018, the Center’s accomplishments include:

  • 97.1 percent heal rate
  • 24 median days to heal
  • 95 percent patient satisfaction rate
  • 4.9 out of 5 physician satisfaction rate
  • 656 wounds healed

Toni Emerald, Director of Operations for Adventist Health Sonora’s outpatient clinics, has overseen the Center for Wound Care since it opened in 2009. “There was a true need for this service in our community when we opened 10 years ago. I am so proud of the work being done and look forward to year 11 and all we will accomplish,” she said. Eden Smith, M.D., serves as Medical Director and acknowledges the staff for the Center’s success. “I truly enjoy doing this work,” he explains, “and seeing the response from our patients and how grateful they are when their wounds are healed.”

The Center for Wound Care offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time. The Center provides physician-driven care plans with registered nurse support staffing. Leading edge treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies. The Center also offers hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which works by surrounding the patient with 100 percent oxygen to help progress the healing of the wound. Same day and next day new patient appointments are available, no referral is needed, and all insurances are accepted.
